Fun with Google Translate
About
Clearly, tanslation from one human language into another one is a difficult task, especially for a machine. The main problem is that a lot of words have different meanings depending on their context. So, making sense of a complete sentence is more than just knowing all the words in it. Consequently, even today's most advanced translation algorithms cannot compete with a person knowing both languages involved.
Google offers an automatic translation service which can be fed with complete sentences together with the desired source and destination language choice. (It's the same engine as they use for the search page translation service.)
Repeated Translations
One day, I had to try it out: What happens, if you take an English sentence, which has just been translated from German, and translate it back into German. Will it be the same? Likely not. And what if you translate it back again into English? You'll laugh your head off!
(Note that the below examples may not be reproducible as soon as the translation service is upgraded.)
So, here we go (these are from December 2006):

This is one single sentence from the US patent 5,160,296 granted to Katz and Solomon on November 3, 1992. Well, I can't read any of these. I just understand "said", "said", "said"...
